A massive portion of YouTube's userbase never saw annotations. That same userbase probably doesn't know that you used to be able to add people as friends on YouTube.

I was there when those features were a thing. nowadays the idea of YouTube friends seems like an Oxymoron. I mean, people cause riots and rally lynch mobs on YouTube, why would that be friendly?
