I use a 3D model and although most of my friends use 2D models, several also use 3D.
With your model movement it's actually a combination of rigging, software, and camera. No matter if it's a 2D or 3D model, if it's not rigged well it's tracking will be shit at best. With software it's partially hardware linked, but some software simply works better than others. Lastly, if yoour camera cannot track motion at all or very little then your movements will be mlvery choppy to non existent. These 3 things apply to both model types.
I prefer the freedom of 2D but the pose-ability of 3D models.
